On Friday 9 May 2025, starting at 9:45 a.m., the Conference organised in the framework of the Law Clinic ‘EU Cooperation on Justice and Home Affairs: Insights’ and the EUVALWEB Legal Observatory, dedicated to Trafficking in Human Beings: Legal Framework and Critical Application Issues, will take place. The first session of the event, entitled Framing, definition and implications of trafficking in human beings, will start at 10:00 a.m. and will take place in the ‘Nicola Cilento’ hall of the University of Salerno. This will be opened with the institutional greetings of Vincenzo Loia (Rector of the University of Salerno), Francesco Fasolino (Director of the Department of Legal Sciences, Unisa), Prof. Giuseppe D’Angelo (President of the Didactic Council of the Department of Legal Sciences, Unisa) and Dr. Giuseppe Ciampa (President of the Court of Salerno). The first session will be chaired and introduced by Luigi Kalb (Full Professor of Criminal Procedure, Department of Legal Sciences, Unisa) and will be followed by the speeches of Valeria Giordano (Full Professor of Philosophy of Law, Department of Legal Sciences, Unisa), Anna Iermano (Associate Professor of International Law, Department of Legal Sciences, Unisa), Teresa Russo (Associate Professor of European Union Law, Department of Legal Science, Unisa, EUVALWEB Chair Holder), Antonio Cavaliere (Full Professor of Criminal Law, Department of Law, University of Naples ‘Federico II’), Chiara Scipioni (UNHCR Protection Associate – Human Trafficking), and Emanuela Borrelli (IOM Project Assistant – ALT Caporalato D.U.E. Project).

A debate with students and civil society will conclude the first part of the conference.

The second session of the Conference, dedicated to the difficulties of emerging and identifying trafficking in human beings, will start at 3:00 p.m. and will take place at the Court of Appeal of Salerno, Building E, Aula Magna. This will be inaugurated by the institutional greetings of Francesco Fasolino (Director of the Department of Legal Sciences, Unisa), and Alberto Toriello (Lawyer and President of the Bar Association of Salerno). Two panels will follow, introduced and chaired by Mattia Caputo (Judge of the First Civil Section of the Court of Salerno). The first panel, dedicated to investigations and enquiries, will feature the speeches of Elvio Barbati (Head of the Mobile Squad of the Salerno Police Headquarters) and Rocco Alfano (Deputy Public Prosecutor at the Salerno Court). The second panel, dedicated to the Italian anti-trafficking system and legal protection, will include the speeches of Paola Di Martino (Coordinator of the trafficking and exploitation area of the Dedalus social cooperative) and Alessandra Galatro (Head of the ‘Fuori tratta’ project – ARCI Salerno APS), Amarilda Lici (Lawyer of the Association for Juridical Studies on Immigration) and Francesca Iervolino (Judge of the Specialised Section on Immigration and International Protection of the Court of Salerno).

The conference sessions will end with a discussion.

The recognition of training credits for lawyers is envisaged.
