We are more than delighted to introduce to you the Jean Monnet Chair “Promoting public awareness of enlargement policy, EU values and the accession of the Western Balkans” (EUVALWEB)!

Proud of what has been achieved in the past years, we thought that the Chair would take over the activities and research of the Jean Monnet Module EUWEB, while expanding the topics covered and always ensuring a multidisciplinary approach.

In fact, the Chair focuses on the evolution of the EU enlargement policy and its implications in the construction of the EU identity based on its founding values, as well as on the EU strategy towards the Western Balkans, particularly in the field of cooperation on Justice and Home Affairs (JHA).

EUVALWEB activities will be organised in a main course on Enlargement Policy, EU values and Integration of the Western Balkans; a law clinic on EU Cooperation on Justice and Home Affairs and a cycle of two international conferences.

Be sure to take note, you don’t want to miss them!

The Seminar of Prof. Teresa Russo (EUVALWEB Chair Holder), entitled “Critical Issues in the Relationship Between the Rule of Law and EU Enlargement Policy“, as part of the course of International Organization at the Department of Legal Sciences, University of Salerno, represented a starting point for the new Jean Monnet Chair in “Promoting Public Awareness on Enlargement Policy, EU Values and the Western Balkans’ Accession”.

The event was the occasion to introduce and address the Chair activities to the audience, consisting of both students and representatives also from the Balkan academic community.

Convened in cooperation with the Faculty of Law of the University of Niš (Serbia), the Seminar indeed saw other relevant personalities taking part to its final open debate, such as Prof. Dejan Vučetić, who also took charge of the introduction, as well as Prof. Marko Dimitriejvic and Prof. Miomira Kostić.

After three years of the Jean Monnet Module “EU-Western Balkans Cooperation on Justice and Home Affairs” (EUWEB), we felt like something more could and had to happen… and so it did!
Today, it’s with great pleasure and a bit of thrill that we announce that the European Commission selected to co-financing the Jean Monnet Chair “Promoting Public Awareness on Enlargement Policy, EU Values and the Western Balkans’ Accession” (EUVALWEB), under the guide of prof. Teresa Russo as Chair holder.

The Chair is set to focus on the evolution of EU Enlargement policy and its implications in the construction of EU identity, based on its core values (article 2 TEU), as well as on the EU strategy toward the Western Balkans.

Therefore, EUVALWEB serves the purpose of building up awareness, expertise and competency in those who will attend its courses, skills that are critical in the current stage of EU integration process for the erection of a wide community of law based on the respect for democracy and human rights in particular. The more than 90 hours of yearly activities will include group lectures, seminars, training and tutorials, including in a distance format.

The three-years Jean Monnet Chair EUVALWEB is starting from March 2023 and we encourage you all, EU and Non-EU (Western Balkans above all) Citizens, to attend its courses held both online and in presence at the University of Salerno.
